2024 Winner Highlight: Kaela’s Patch

Kaela’s Patch in Woodend, Queensland, is our Grand Prize Winner for Australia!

Read on to learn more about a business which started out selling fabric from home and grew into a lovely shop with a beautiful classroom space!

Please tell us your store’s story.

Our business started out with Kylie selling fabric at the local handmade markets and from home. Before too long she had outgrown these spaces, and our brick and mortar store opened in August 2016. Since then, we have expanded our space to include a classroom area.

Our store is owned by Kylie and her husband, Tom. They have two boys, Connor and Ethan, who are often seen in the store after school.

Kylie has been quilting and bag making for over 20 years and loves to share her passion and knowledge with all her customers both in store and via workshops.

Ann, Kylie’s mom, is also an important part of the team. Ann loves to do English paper piecing, quilting, and historical dressmaking. She is often found working on our front counter helping customers select the items for their upcoming projects.

For those who have not seen the store, please describe it.

Our store is approximately 250 square meters and located in the heart of the Ipswich CBD and close to public transport. We are an open plan store with a classroom located within the store.

We stock a wide range of quilting fabrics, bag making supplies, and haberdashery.

Our team love to support local and Australian businesses where we can, from notions to patterns.

Our classroom activities include quilting and bag making workshops, along with social sewing and sip and stitch nights. Our team also love to visit local southeast Queensland craft groups with our pop-up shops and workshops.

I visited the store on Friday 15/03/24 as was in Ipswich waiting for my hubby having eye surgery. I walked in and could not be happier with the welcoming I received. Just a very friendly atmosphere. It has everything and more. I will be visiting whenever in that part of Queensland. I think Ipswich and surrounding areas as so lucky to have such a wonderful place to shop and mingle.
