Homestead Quilting and Fabrics keeps themselves busy by constantly bringing new exciting products and events into the store.

Most recently, they’ve started a new Mystery Five-0 program.

This exciting program combines quilting with a quarterly mystery story.

To prepare for this event launching in August 2025, Homestead has made fabric kits with the final quilt in mind.

Who doesn’t love an opportunity to solve a mystery through sewing? Owner, Michelle, clearly loves to provide great events to her customers.

In the 2025 Local Quilt Shop Contest, many voters wrote in to share memories of when Michelle went above and beyond to provide the best possible service.

Deborah shared, “I had a personal goal to have seven quilts done by Christmas.

Michelle, the owner and long armer, was supportive and encouraging.

She helped me with timing and great suggestions for quilting patterns.

Together we achieved my goal!”

Carleen said, “I needed a rush quilting job for a friend who had lost her husband.

Her daughters wanted a memory quilt made of his dress shirts in time for their anniversary and Michelle went above and beyond to get the quilting done for me quickly. It was very appreciated.”

Joanne commented, “On my first visit to the store I asked about classes available.

Michelle asked about me so she could fit me to the correct class. I instantly felt like part of the family.”

It’s that dedication that won them their spot as the Regional Winner for Massachusetts three years in a row.

When asked about the impact of the Local Quilt Shop Contest, Michelle said, “I’ve been able to offer more items to my customers as a result of winning the contest, and more quilters are aware of my existence in the area from the advertising”

Located in the charming town of Lakeville, Massachusetts, Homestead Quilting and Fabrics has established itself as a go-to destination for quilters in the area.

Recognized as the state’s winner of the Local Quilt Shop contest for two years running, this local treasure is more than just a fabric store — it’s a community hub. With its cheerful atmosphere and an impressive selection of over a thousand bolts of fabric, it’s no wonder quilters flock to this vibrant space.

Community Centered from the Start

At the heart of Homestead Quilting and Fabrics is its owner, Michelle Medeiros, who opened the shop with a clear mission: to create a welcoming space where quilters could not only find quality fabrics and supplies, but also connect with one another.

It’s clear that Michelle’s community-centered vision is what makes Homestead a special place for so many.

Quilting had been a part of Michelle’s life since high school, and after seeing many local shops close, she decided to step up and fill the gap. Her efforts paid off, as the store is now a thriving community resource that’s attracting new customers and keeping the quilting spirit alive in Massachusetts.

A Wealth of Knowledge and Education

What truly sets Homestead Quilting and Fabrics apart is the wealth of knowledge shared within its walls. The shop offers a variety of classes that appeal to both beginners and experienced quilters alike, helping everyone grow their skills in a supportive environment.

Michelle is joined by an experienced team of instructors: Cheryl is a former Judy Niemeyer-certified instructor and a paper piecing expert who shares those skills with students in periodic workshops. Pat teaches machine embroidery and is their Baby Lock aficionado. Diane can be found teaching a variety of classes. As a fan of quilting history and antique quilts, she’s full of knowledge to share.

Amanda shared, “Michelle and Diane have taken my quilting to a whole other level that I never thought I could get to. The classes they offer are fantastic for any skill level.”

Homestead Quilting and Fabrics isn’t just about selling supplies — it’s about fostering a community of quilters who inspire and support each other.

The Local Quilt Shop contest has also helped bring in many new faces, as Michelle mentions that newcomers often express surprise, saying, “We never knew you were here!”

Visit Historical New England

If you’re a quilter or simply appreciate the craft, Homestead Quilting and Fabrics is a must-visit. While you’re in Lakeville, take some time to explore the nearby historical sites, like Plymouth Rock, the Robbins Museum of Archaeology, or even the quirky Tom Thumb Museum.

If you’re planning on visiting the area this fall, be sure to check out one of Diane’s quilts in a special exhibit at the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, MA.

Homestead Quilting and Fabrics is more than a fabric store. It’s a destination that celebrates creativity, history, and community.
