Please tell us your store’s story.

Emily Hand

We started our mother-daughter business 10 years ago. We also have two small helpers— grandsons James (3) and Thomas (3 months) .

We started as an embroidery store and added fabric and quilting supplies soon after opening. We grew into bigger buildings until three years ago when we bought the building we are in currently. We have a passion for quilting and teaching others that they can do it too! We also enjoy bag making and hand embroidery projects, working with yarn and so much more!

Penny Smith

For those who have not seen the store, please describe it.

We are located in the center of the state of Alabama in a small town called Clanton in a 2,400 square foot building. We are busting at the “seams” with sewing and quilting fabrics and supplies! We carry old classics as well as new trendy items.

We quilt for the public. They bring their quilt tops in and we finish them. We also finish quilt tops that loved ones have made and never finished so that the family can enjoy them for years to come.

We offer thousands of bolts of quality quilting and sewing fabrics, bag making supplies, yarn, embroidery items, and a host of sewing notions.

We hold classes regularly, teaching others to make quilt tops, bags, embroidery items, and whatever else people ask us to teach!

We also repair quilts for the public. We make donation quilts along with our YouTube followers who help by sending in quilt squares.

great support and customer service!”

Please tell us about any upcoming special events at your store.

We have an event that we help with twice a year, June and October. It is called Craft A Cropolis. Hundreds of people come in from all over the USA. They learn quilting, paper crafting, sewing, and more. It is a four day, fun- filled event.

“I have been sewing for about 6 months and quilting for about 4 of those months. Penny and Emily are so kind, patient, and encouraging when I come in with questions. They put me at complete ease on my new sewing journey.”

In closing

When asked about the impact of the Local Quilt Shop Contest, Penny said, “The Local Quilt Shop Contest has impacted our business in a positive way. People found out about us who didn’t know we were here once they heard that we won the contest. We are very appreciative of all the work that goes into this contest and supporting local quilt shops all over.”
