Sew Charming Quilt Shop in Clanton is our 2023 Regional Prize Winner for Alabama.
We asked Owners Penny Smith and Emily Hand about the store and the impact from our contest.
Can we share some history about the store?
We began April 1, 2014 and have grown and moved to bigger locations three times. We have now purchased a building with lots of room to expand.
Recently, we were added to the Alabama Barn Quilt Trail!
We are a mother/daughter duo – Penny Smith (me) is the mother and Emily Hand (daughter) and have a blast running our quilt shop. We are quilt enthusiasts and love having the chance to meet new people every day.
We hold classes to teach others the art of quilting in hopes that others will get as interested in quilting as we are! It is truly a joy to get to go to work each day and do what you enjoy!
Can you describe your product offerings or store services?
We have a 3,000 square foot standalone building in the heart of downtown Clanton, Alabama.
We are currently looking at expanding to add more retail space as well as a large classroom. We are a laidback shop who welcomes questions. We are here for anyone who wishes to learn to quilt!
We sell thousands of bolts of 100% cotton fabrics, sewing machines, longarm machines, notions, books, and more!
Any upcoming events that we can help share the word?
We are collaborating with Maymay Made It, a papercrafting company, at an event called “Craft-A-Cropolis” to be held May 8-11, 2023 in Clanton, Alabama.
This event will encompass all things papercrafting, stamping, quilting, and sewing!
We also offer sewing classes!
In closing
About winning our contest, Owners Penny Smith and Emily Hand said “We are honored! We have had customers come in the shop to congratulate us. Everyone is so excited. We couldn’t be happier! We’ve been smiling so much that our cheeks hurt.”
We are smiling, too!
